Publisher Guidelines

Principles to help sponsorships work well for your visitors, your sponsors, and you.

Where to place it

Think of the ad as a recommendation, not an interruption. It performs best when it's visible without being pushy.

+
Sidebar, header, or between content sections. Natural spots where recommendations make sense.
+
Visible on page load (desktop). Sponsors pay for visibility.
+
Within first scroll on mobile. Doesn't need to be above the fold, just reachable.
Buried at the bottom of long pages. If nobody sees it, nobody benefits.

Formats

Banner

Full-width horizontal strip. Responsive: stacks vertically on narrow screens. Headers, hero areas, between sections.

Card

Vertical layout: logo, name, tagline, CTA. Fills its container. Grid cells, sidebars, modals.

Rules

Use the snippet as provided

Don't modify the script or host it yourself. Updates ship automatically.

Max 2 placements per page

A banner at the top and a card in the content is fine. More than 2 dilutes value and hurts CTR.

One placement per location

Don't create separate placements to swap formats by screen size. Each format handles responsiveness on its own.

Keep the attribution visible

Script integrations handle this automatically. API integrations must display one of the provided labels ("Ad", "Sponsored", "Adventory Ads", or "Sponsored by Adventory") near the ad, linked to the attribution URL. Minimum 9px, readable contrast.

No stacking with other networks

Don't display other ad networks directly alongside Adventory ads in the same container.

How impressions work

Script integration

Counted when the ad is actually seen:

  • 50% visible for 1+ second
  • Tab active, container visible

API integration

Counted when the pixel loads:

  • Fire pixel when ad is displayed
  • Deduped by IP per placement (1h)
  • Forward user's IP from server

Pageviews and impressions won't match exactly. We measure real visibility, not page loads.
